interesting. reactions have been a bit mixed so far--I gather the staff wasn't too impressed with it.

It would be interesting to hear more. My impression is that it was high on well written rhetoric and low on substantive argumentation. The kind of thing academic notables get away with in their later years. Sort of, take this on my authority; I no longer have to make my case.

As I said in an earlier post, the one new thing I found was the discussion of the relations and non-relations between the Iraqi and Iranian Shiites.
