US Govt. Internet monitoring issues

The NYTimes, some will recall, had an article on a new Bush administration initiative to monitor Internet traffic. Many of us wondered whether to worry, wondered if it were possible to do as the article hinted.

Here's a link to an MSNBC article that puts a bit more flesh on the issue. My own take, at the moment, is that the Bush folk have underexplained themselves, in the extreme. They have a terrible track record on surveillance issues. Knowing that, you would expect them to be way out ahead of these kinds of stories, if this were not a surveillance issue. Their silence is disturbing. But, no doubt, we will hear more about this.
