Social security: I think you have it backwards. Clinton gave us surpluses. Bush will leave us with either a 2 trillion or 8 trillion deficit depending on whether he's re-elected and whether he changes his policies or not. Of course better times could be ahead and change this, but right now that's the prognosis. The culprit is the Bush backloaded tax cuts which really do favor the very rich. Remember the Republicans bashing the Dems for having the ad with the old lady in the wheelchair going down the stairs? That's the baby boomer retiree. That's because Bush let the rich out of paying their usual taxes, which are the lowest in the western world in this country, plus tons of deductions and trust dodges. The heads that will roll will be the ones who gave SS away to the very rich who didn't need it or deserve it. Mark my words, the Kerry payroll tax plan is best. It may be temporary but without taxes you dont have government. Even Bush's military spending cannot be paid for. And Bush has not spent a single dollar yet on the Homeland Security program. Just wait. By the way, California's 35 billion deficit (2/3 because of the Bush-related phony energy crisis) will hurt the entire nation. Not just Democrats in California.
