Names of fame, infamy
Lea Fastow, linked to the Enron scandal
by her husband's indictment, comes

The following is an excerpt from Mr. Bernstein's article:

" Her very name links two markedly different business legacies.

Lea Weingarten Fastow comes from a family that once reigned as
charitable merchant princes of Houston. But her marriage ties her to
the shame of fallen Enron.

Lea Fastow's husband, former Enron Chief Financial Officer Andrew
Fastow, has been indicted on 78 counts for allegedly designing
business partnerships that enriched him, family and friends while
hiding Enron's losses.

Now she also may be in prosecutors' sights. Sources say a federal
grand jury has heard testimony about how much Lea Fastow -- a
former Enron assistant treasurer -- knew about the tens of millions
her husband was accumulating and whether she controlled some of
the money. Prosecutors have also told Andrew Fastow to expect more
charges to be filed against him -- and possibly others.

It could be a bluff. The government might only be trying to force him
to plead guilty and cooperate with the investigation in order to
protect his wife from possible charges and imprisonment.

Her friends say Lea Fastow would not knowingly do anything illegal.
She's described as intelligent, down-to-earth and focused on
supporting her husband and caring for their two young sons. "
