THE MISTRESS

Like Alice, she has walked
Through the looking glass
Quite surprised to find herself
On this other side
She listens to him tell her
How his wife
Doesn't understand him
And now that she is not the wife
It seems her empathy's improved
She looks back through the mirror and
The image looks familiar
She tries to scream "look out" to her
But there's no sound at all
Do you and your wife talk, she asks,
After you make love?
Only if - he smiles at her -
I can find a phone.
