If Apple could somehow pull a rabbit out of a hat next year

Maybe not gain workstations systems, but those who are considering PC workstation systems would not switch. Possibly some gain in UNIX people or people who are considering setting up their own servers.

Depends on how much faster. Parity won't get many people to switch but at 1.25x as fast would push a lot of people (those who like the UNIX aspect of OSX) over the edge, despite the dock. That means real performance and comparable prices, I don't think workstation buyers are swayed as much by clock speeds. They want to see real world rendering comparisons like DV mag reviews.

iPod clone margins will shrink to nothing pretty quickly putting pressure on iPod margins. Apple will come out with a machine that adds to iPod functionality.
