I liked his "crap detector" comment too. Hugo was a bright man, not only a good poet, but a good teacher of poetics. About a year and a half ago, I sought out a poet mentor, who works with me on the craft of writing poetry. She tells it to me straight, when I'm falling into an overworked metaphor or need to clarify something. It's been good for me, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. I don't know if you saw this, posted earlier in the week. It's my first major publication, a contemporary sonnet. Message 18347328
