December 23, 2002

China's second largest mobile phone operator China Unicom is increasing its collaboration with foreign technology companies as it builds up its CDMA 3G capability. US CDMA developer Qualcomm, Japan's KDDI and Korea's SK Telecom all recently announced agreements to help Unicom roll out its 3G services even before the technology gets the official go-ahead in China. Unicom will be hoping to draw on the experience of KDDI and SK Telecom, both of whom run CDMA 3G systems in their own countries.
