John Kerry - one of my best friends was a VIP in the William Weld campaign. Kerry-Weld was a clash of titans. Both brilliant popular men. Kerry won in the end despite the GOP throwing EVERYTHING plus the kitchen sink at him to no avail. I told my friend I was going with Kerry this time around and he sighed. He admitted Kerry might win. My friend is a strong Republican but with environmental leanings. He prefers McCain to Bush. But Bush it the man now. He is really turned off with soem of what has hit his party. Though he is thankful for the resurgence of the GOP. He also realizes 9-11 gave Bush a big "pass" for 1-2 years. Hard to criticize your president whoever it is when you're attacked. I supported Bush for about 9 months after 9-11. Wanted him to be as hawkish as possible. But I think it's gone to his head (and his poll numbers). And the Iraq War before the election ruse was insidious. Clever but so corrupt. He has to be restrained. And the economy and environment under Bush, yuck. Totally wrong directions on each. As payoffs to contributors mostly. I really worry about this country's fiscal well-being and future. This is not just the usual recession. The Bush tax cuts have put a hex on any new middle-class confidence. They get nothing but fewer services and debt which will eventually mean higher taxes. At least local and state. That's already happening. No common sense. Just Reagan worship or something. Old ideas which may have worked at the time but not now. I also think the sooner we're off Arab oil the better, but only with renewables, mainly hydroge. Have to make that efficient. Will take Kerry to do it.
