Hutchison's H3G Italia sees nearly 100,000 UMTS bookings at yr-end AFX European Focus December 23, 2002 Monday 05:12 AM Eastern Time MILAN Hutchison Whampoa Ltd mobile phone unit H3G Italia said it expects to have nearly 100,000 reservations at the year-end for its forthcoming UMTS service. In an interview with the daily La Repubblica, H3G Italia chief executive Vincenzo Novari said the company has already received 70,000 bookings for the service and is receiving 2,000 reservations a day. Currently only 70 pct of phone calls are successful in the trials the company is carrying out but the service is expected to start after Epiphany (Jan 6), Novari said. Novari said it will give 333 UMTS handsets to celebrities after Jan 6 and that by the end of January it will start distributing handsets to other clients.
