Also, while manager was activating our phones, the salesperson was working with girl (maybe 15 years old) was looking at the Sanyo phone with the built in camera. The girl knew everything about the phone and was selling her mother on it - $300+ price and all. I said to the manager that it looked like kids were crazy over the camera phones and he said they were. It looks like these are going to be big, big items.
I'm still convinced wireless data, as Sprint is presenting it and has plans to present it, will follow the Korean experience. I think if you look at SK Mobile specifically, there is a strong similarity, with a time lag of 12-15 months. Very similar proprietary J2Me platform, subscriber counts, 1x data takeups, and initial data products. Overall 1x penetration only lags SKM by about a quarter(I think it is ahead of the other Korean carriers, as well as KDDI), and their pricing is ahead, IMO.
I do notice the camera gets a lot of attention. I think the Sanyo 5300 much more so than the A500 with detached camera, so maybe that is the first must-have in their lineup.
Hope so.
