If JPM is in as much trouble with a gold short as folklore seems to suggest, then why don't they just buy sh!tloads of gold calls and manufacture their own squeeze and get themselves out of it. I have no special knowledge of the JPM or gold short position, but intuitively the rumors of JPMs impending downfall seem unfounded to me. I am yet to read a real explanation from anybody that gets beyond the vague and fuzzy hyping of totally irrelevant "notional" values of derivatives as per SEC reports.
