Things the movie won't tell you. or The Istari, The Three
The Wizards arrived in Middle Earth from the Undying Lands (Vala) as a group. There were five wizards, three appear in the LOTR, Saruman the White, Gandalf the Gray and Radagast the Brown. Two others whom, Tolkien simply termed the Blue Wizards would continue to the east and would never be mentioned in the LOTR. The Istari are actually Maiar, the servants of the Valar. Sauron is such a creature and his prominence in the Third Age (the age in which the War of the Rings occurs) is a result of his master, Melkor, also known as Morgoth, being bound and thrown into the uttermost darkness. The binding of Morgoth was accomplished by Eru, the One, after the Valar laid down their guardianship of the world, unable to prevail against the Enemy. The eldest of the firstborn in Middle Earth is Galadriel, she is the only one of the Eldar living in Middle Earth who cannot return to the Undying Lands. Galadriel was present when Feanor led his people out of the West in an attempt to recover a stolen treasure, the Silmarils. The fleeing Eldar engaged their cousins, the Teleri, at Aqualonde. The battle results in the slaying of their kin and banishment from the Undying Lands.
In the first movie many people saw that Galadriel had a ring on her finger. This ring is one of the Three, never sullied by the hand of Sauron. Galadriel wears Nenya, the Ring Adamant which was fashioned with a white stone. The holder of Nenya can see into the hearts of all others while their own heart is secure. The two other rings that make up the three were Vilya, The Ring of Wisdom, fashioned with a blue stone and Narya, the Ring of Fire, fashioned with a red stone. The movie fails to mention that the elves did not know how to fashion the rings of power, it was a craft that Celebrimbor learned from Sauron. |
