PB, We have commodities analysts, and they are generally a cut above the stock analysts. Which means they are nearly as good as a coin flip. <g> However, their grasp of what is important is good. It's their decisions about those factors that are iffy.

I would start reading the commodity research from a big brokerage house to get the whys and wherefores of various ag products. For example, before I traded soy bean oil, I read the research and learned that its price depended partly on rape seed oil and palm oil prices, and where those items were produced. And a lot of other stuff.

Number one recommendation is to start with long options as opposed to the futures themselves. Margin calls can be ugly critters and long options don't have them.
