Secrecy corrupts. Absolute secrecy corrupts absolutely.

thus rewriting the age-old rule against prior restraint that had previously governed the law in this country.

That's a death knell unless reversed.

I believe one of the major reasons the the US was so successfully economically compared to others that, in terms of resources and population should have done as well or better, has been its relative lack of corruption in business and gov't.

But businessmen and bureaucrats will not remain honest unless they occasionally imagine their names in 24-point type on the front page of the New York Times or Washington Post.

And prior restraint will destroy that prospect.

Corruption will eat out the heart of our success faster than any ME terrorists can even dream of.

Because of its success on the computer encryption front, the US gov't has decided ALL technical information, classified or not, is "munitions" and subject to the International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations. I am working on a totally unclassified project funded by a gov't agency that, to my knowledge, has never had a classified project or access to classified material. BUT when we transmit information by whatever means, we have to insure the recipient is authorized to receive it.

Even if it's the value of pi: 3.141592653589.....

I think I just broke the law.
I'm sure the Arabs and rotten Commies did know that value.
