Has there ever been a story that discusses the everyday effect of this "depression" in Japanese stocks? If Japan has not experienced a "depression" like the one in the U.S. during the 30's, how was it avoided? Every so often a documentary is shown about the devastation of the U.S. depression. However, there have been no similar stories regarding Japan. How can this be? In Japan, every normal middle-class family lost a significant portion of their wealth through real estate and stock value declines. During the 30's very few Americans had real estate or stock investments. Why the misery here, but not in Japan? Or, is it occurring in Japan, but just not covered by the media?
