Ted Re...Begala defends 'It's Still the Economy, Stupid'
I assume you posted this because you support it; as it was put out by a liberal, and includes the dems, byline, "It the economy stupid."
I predict that this book will sell even less than Al's forgettable book sold. If there is one thing Bill and his cronies should have learned by now, it is that the smarmy, better than thou attitude doesn't play well. Yet read this part which you highlighted because you probably thought it was so cute.
NOVAK: Here's a thing that offends some people. It offends me, to tell you the truth.
BEGALA: I hate to offend you, Bob.
NOVAK: You call the president stupid.
BEGALA: Oh, no, no, no.
NOVAK: That's what the reference to. You call him Junior during the whole [book.]
BEGALA: He is. He's not senior. He's junior. You got to distinguish him from his father.
NOVAK: He's not a junior. He's not George W.H. Bush -- George Jr. And you treat him with such disrespect. Do you think that's funny, or...
BEGALA: I think politicians should be laughed at. I actually know Bush a little bit and I think he's a good guy.
NOVAK: Why should they be laughed at?
BEGALA: Well, maybe you lack a sense of humor, Bob. We can treat that, you know, these days.
Incredible. He is still trying to paint GW as a moron. And when confronted by Novak, he tries to claim that the problem is that we don't have a proper sense of humor. Worse, you Dems. are still trying to make the economy bigger than it is; that the economy is more important than national security. And you liberals are claiming that us right wingers are greedy?
During Bill's yrs, the economy was important; I mean what else could Bill highlight, how important family values are; that we need a strong defense when we just got done kicking Saddam out of Kuwait. Bill didn't appreciably increase education, he cut back on welfare, and he signed NAFTA, so he couldn't campaign on a jobs platform. So the "Its the economy Stupid" was a great slogan for that time. The 2002 elections have shown people have other more pressing concerns. If Begala had written a book titled "Its not just the economy stupid."; maybe he would have lent some insight into how the dems could revive the party; instead of this smarmy, GW is stupid and Im smarter than you attitude, coming from a guy who couldn't even help the president find what the definition of "is", is.
An even worse problem for Begala is that he not an economist, he is a political consultant, and speech writer, and not a very astute one at that. Look at his predictions one day before the Nov. 5 elections.
http://cgi1.usatoday.com/mchat/20021104001/tscript.htm Valle Crucis, NC: According to today's reports, it looks as if the GOP is gaining in the final days of the election and is poised to take control of the Senate. Do you agree with this assessment and if so, to what do you attribute the Republican advantage?
Paul Begala: I do not agree with the assessment. With Bush's favorable at about 61%, the GOP should be winning across the board. And yet Democrats are poised for major gains in the nation's governorships and the Senate. The House remains too close to call. In key races like North Carolina Senate and Texas Senate, Republicans who looked like they had it won a few weeks ago are seeing their leads evaporate. I hardly call that a GOP surge.
This guy is a genius only in his mind; and you dems. think he is great. I predict that attitudes like his, and your beloved Sen Murray, will cause more damage to the dems, than Bill's inability to find what the definition of Is is. |
