Mitch, OT >They still do a fine job, have plenty of memory, and seldom crash and burn.< A 3 year old PC is likely to have 128MB memory or less and Windows 98. I still have one and it does crash or freeze a little too often. I won't upgrade it but will buy a new one because Windows XP is more stable. XP also requires more memory and the new PC will come with a much bigger HD than the 4GB the old one has.

I upgraded a newer laptop to WinXP and am delighted with the stability. I think WinXP is the main reason for buying a new PC, followed closely by larger HD and faster processor. Upgrading a 3 year old PC is just not cost effective.

If a tightwad like me is thinking of buying, many others must be, too. Put bluntly, I disagree with your statement.
