Year end audit, 2002:

I may be making some year-end trades, but I'll close the books between now and the last time I did an audit (message 95 on this board).

Trades: 23
Portfolio value last year: $11530
Portfolio value now: $11252.31

Performance: -2.4%

Couple observations:

- I didn't give myself dividends for my MDY long. That would have added in an extra 10 bucks to the portfolio. But then again, since I'm not deducting commissions (assuming a brokerage like Interactive Brokers would have cost me roughly $30 in commissions for the year), I'll take the liberal assumption that both of these costs in terms of the portfolio are negligible (roughly 0.1 or 0.2% of performance).

- MDY closed 2001 at 92.80, and is currently 79.29. Factoring in dividends (71 cents), this leaves a total return of -13.8% for MDY investors.

I hardly traded in this portfolio, but it seems that minimising the exposure to the marketplace was the correct move. Whether I kept the portfolio out of the market due to choice or sheer negligence is an exercise to the reader. :)

MDY between the end of 2000 and the end of 2002 would have yielded a total net return of -14.3%, after factoring in dividends.
