Like any sport, shopping is an issue of time and space.

Sales were up, the shopping period was shorter. To make any conclusion on consumer sentiment is a matter of interpretation.

The other aspect is that Internet sales are projected to be up 40% YOY. Still a smallish percentage of total retail... but growing at 10X total retail sales, it's starting to cannibalize traditional retail. It's not something that you would expect the analysts to ignore, but the analysts are analyzing in the post-bubble ultra conservative mindset.

In the end, what we really need is business investment.
