Just one man's opinion, but ... while the all black background is very dramatic and makes for a striking impact, my own preference is to leave (or put) some texture and color in the background. Otherwise the overall tone of the image is too black and heavy and the image has a flatness which it doesn't have when the background at least slightly visible.
