tanks-

at our annual boxing day get together
with harold's family today, we uncovered
a time capsule that we buried in 1989.

everyone had a chance to read/view what
they had buried 13 years ago. we were to
have opened it in the year 2000 but didn't.

this is the message my mother-in-law buried:

at my age, i'm not too crazy about projecting my
thoughts ten years ahead - to the year 2000 for
god's sake - sounds like science fiction. and
will i even still be here? will i be healthy or
will i be hanging around like an old and ugly
baby? in any case, i have no clever reflections
to leave for posterity, so here is a translation
from marcus aurelius:

"time is a river of passing events, and strong is
its current; no sooner is a thing brought to
sight than it is swept by and another takes it's
place, and this too will be swept away. and so
are we all, snowflakes falling into the lightless
river of time."

also, somebody said "growing old is one of the
most difficult chapters in the great art of living."
I hope i've read it well.

.. i looked on her with renewed admiration this
evening.
