Bill - I have to agree with kumar here.

One can of course have an opinion on anything he cares to spend five minutes thinking about. However, he should refrain from generalized statements like "They are all like this and that" about a group of people he has never lived among.

I can have an opinion about the Eskimos. Maybe I am interested, I read about them, I follow the news. Does that mean I really know what kind of people they are, what their lives are about, what their principles and goals in life are? I guess you will agree with me that the answer to that question is "No".

Please do have an opinion about the Middle East. However, bear in mind that your opinion is shaped to a significant extent by your media exposure, and when people who have lived in the region like kumar and myself comment on its people, habits, ways of life, and thoughts, believe us at least as much as the internet sites you read.
