I seriously if Carter's mission will be looked upon as a mistake. There were different times then; besides Carter just did what he was asked. Because he couldn't negotiate a better deal isn't necessarily Carter's fault. Billy boy shouldn't have accepted the deal if he didn't like it.

All in all, it might have been a good deal for both sides. While NK did work on the science end of their nuclear program, NK did lock up the spent fuel rods, and didn't have the material to build more bombs. If Kim had sold even one to Iraq, Saddam would be a far bigger threat today; and with 4 or 5 extra nukes,Kims blackmail might be effective today. In the meantime, NK, has weakened over the yrs, until today it is destitute enough to resort to blackmailing to feed its army even. And both China and Russia have switched somewhat diplomatically to our side.

So while Bill didn't have the option to separate NK from its benefactors then, GW does now. So the time bought by Carters deal has been more helpful to our interests than NK; and I am with you in that now is the time to let the Kim ll regime die of its own accord. It may not have been the wise thing to do in 94.
