And why is all this? Because they refused the previous peace settlement for one reason or another
...and then they started a terrorist campaign, which incidently trashed all their signed agreements. This destroyed the basis for the negotiations. How many promises do you take from a guy who has shown that he never keeps a promise? And boy, is Arafat good at getting tangible concessions for mere promises!
A negotiated peace requires credible negotiators on both sides of the table -- negotiators in whom there is at least some small amount of trust that they can and will deliver their side of the bargain. Once again I ask, who will sit on the Palestinian side of the table?
As for the rest, I see your point of view, and it is that Palestinians should continue to be under Israeli occupation AND they should not fight it
If the Palestinians want to put their trust in fighting, we will see what comes of it. If they want to negotiate, let them get some credible negotiators (this is hard I know when you don't have a government but umpteen militias). If they decide to keep demanding a unilateral Israeli withdrawal, lol, they are not likely to be happy with the results. Both sides have read the lessons of Lebanon.
Not a Palestinian state, of course, as declared by Sharon in no uncertain terms.
You haven't been listening to Sharon, have you? Sharon backs a Palestinian state -- he says it is unavoidable. |
