Hi Elmat, Making progress: (a) I am not interested in recovering the data because I am backed up to the last PC session;
(b) I do not have to recover the programs, because I am overdue for a reinstall in any case;
(c) I am at the office picking up some CD-ROMs of various programs;
(d) I just visited the Wanchai PC Mall for less than 5 minutes, bought an exact duplicate of my IBM 61 GByte hard drive (instead of made in Hungary, the new one is made in Thailand) for less than USD 60;
(e) Every I spoke to at the mall thought I was lucky to have all my data backed up to the last PC session;
(f) It is, of course, not luck, but preparation, or the last 'C' of my three 'Cs', as in Continuity, Conservation, and Contingency; and
(g) I am hoping the rest of my day goes as smoothly as my PC Mall experience did. If I can get my PC working again, I will look into adding a redundant drive, just to avoid my current experience in the future.
Losing a hard drive is not quite like losing a pet, but share some similarities.
Interesting development, my HKMA (HK Monetary Authority, central bank) buddy instigated a BBQ party on January 4th and wants me to talk gold at the party.
Message to Maurice, when was the last time you backed up the hard drive, and what about buying a bunch of taels of gold? It is all about 'Reset'.
