I think Kenny Lay knows too much. He may be blackmailing the White House. The depths of his involvement in the Bush-Cheney election are only partially known but I do know these facts:
1) B-C had free use of Enron private jets
2) Lay helped Bush make a lot of money and vice versa before the election
3) Lay was THE man in Houston at the time along with James Baker to get things done for the Bushes
4) Enron spent 100 million on politicians and lobbyists influencing policies in 1999-2001, a staggering amount, at least 80% to Republicans and Bushies in particular, much of which was not reported as campaign contributions but was under the table.
5) The phony energy crisis was at least partly devised by Enron and was directly used by Bush-Cheney to make energy an issue, ehough to cost Gore the election (along with a lot of other things)
6) Lay was considered the #1 Bush chocie for Secretary of Treasury and gave the new administration a big wish list and advice list, much of which was given and taken.

Bottomline, Lay could cost Bush the election in 2004 by opening his mouth as much as he helped win him the election in 2002. My guess is blackmail. It happens all the time in the world of politics and business. The opposite of scratch my back I'll scratch yours. I will be shocked if Ken Lay ever sees a prison cell and he is probably the #1 crook in US business/politics. But of course, the people who went along with him and helped him are also guilty. A grand cover-up is required here, or at least to stall everything until after 2004 when it doesn't matter to people anymore.
