Faith-based opens the gates for scamsters, shenanigans, political alliances with religious organizations, payoffs for getting out the vote (or not getting out the vote) and all sorts of other garbage. If you think this has anything to do with honest desire to help the poor you're quite naive. Most honest religious leaders don't even want this. They smell a big rat. A fox into the chicken coop. Whoever approves the grants has the power to influence millions of voters. The minister I know says he doesn't need this money either. He has plenty and no time to organize new beaurocracy to grow it. It's a form of welfare too. Tax-payer money to the poor so long as they go to churches to get it. Bushies seem to be saying churches can be trusted more than government to decide who's needy. Well tell that to those who were scammed by Jim Baker or Oral Roberts. I used to know Oral Roberts chief finance guy's daughter and she told me it was all a big white collar scam. Warehoues full of cash came in from the ignorant in exchange for prayer oil that was actually corn oil. The Oral Roberts people all bought Mercedes and mansions. I'm sure there are many like this with strong ties to the conservative poltical movement. They will get our tax-payer money and have little interest in helping anyone but themselves. FRAUD!
