Gore also walked away with dignity when he was cheated.
The GOP decided Ashcroft would look like a scumbag attacking a widow. Or maybe they realized the vote recounts wouldn't put him over the top anyway. Ashcroft also had another big job waiting. Gore gave up too easily in my opinion but he sure was a good loser, which the GOP has never given him credit for. In fact, he was the winner. A bad call at the end and massive vote fraud in Florida cost him.
