Perhaps this will lend insights as to dealing with homicidal religious fanatics of any and all varieties:

"...[S]ingle Photon Emission Computed Tomography, or SPECT, is increasing understanding of the effects of religion and spirituality on the brain.

Andrew Newberg, director of clinical nuclear medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, used SPECT to study the brains of Tibetan Buddhists while they meditated and Franciscan nuns as they prayed. Newberg's team found a 'dramatic increase' in action in the front region of the brain called the pre-frontal cortex. This region is involved in judgment and empathy. Newberg's group also saw decreased activity in a region of the brain known as the superior parietal lobe. This part of the brain gives us our sense of self, and thus a decrease in that region fits nicely with reports people feel a loss of self while engaged in these spiritual activities, he said.
