Here's a little rescue mission that addresses some of the stuff we've been discussing. I made it an A/B image to make it easier to follow:

1. Image start. Would like to lighten the facial and ring area and keep it as "natural" as possible:

2. Make a selection w/ elliptical marquee:

3. Transform selection so we can twist it around ("transform selection" is only visible in menu when you have an area selected):

4. Twist, then press "enter": users.rcn.com

5. Feather selection (I used "40" for this size of an image):

6. Now feathered, marching ants have changed. Select Levels in layer palette (lower right of screen):

7. View change of light. Notice mask in layers palette:

8. Blue correct for right side of image. Note new mask in layer palette:

9. Done. Rescue accomplished: users.rcn.com
