his mornings Wall Street Journal reports:

Short interest fell 3.3% in the latest month on the Nasdaq Stock Market. The largest volume decreases were in 3COM, down 23,189,098 shares to 15,675,671, Staples, and Ascend, down 9,470,043 to 13,153,882.

The largest volume increases were in Quantum, up 8,603,999 to 23,273,661, Sovereign Bancorp and Boston Chicken.
