Excellent post. The only thing that needs to be added to it is that there is both reason to speculate that the stocks in this industry will find a bottom this year and begin a new bull cycle if a few things fall into place.

First geopolitical concerns must be reduced in the sense that we once again see oil prices at or below $20 a barrel. This will help to spur a business led economic recovery.

Second capacity build outs must slow. We can't continue to see the weak sisters like Hynix bailed out even as China and other Asian countries are planning on building numerous fabs when we already have too much capacity.

Even if the bear market does not end in 2004 there will be good buying opportunities. We aren't there yet in my opinion though.
