I wouldn't say the characters were weak, but IMO the early story lines were contrived and unconvincing. Mark you, I've only watched the first three episodes so far, but in the first episode, the idea that a reputable agency which Lady Marjorie would use would not have done a better job checking out Sarah's bona fides is not credible, and the notion that Lady Marjorie would hire such a person for a position in her household, given the plethora of available candidates (if we believe Rose's statements about how hard it is to get a job and how many are looking for them) is ludicrous.
In the second, the relationship of Sarah and Skoon (sp) is not believable, nor is the rest of the story line. He is a caricature of a painter.
In the third, the house would simply not have been left in the control of the lower servants, to find Rose acting in that way is totally out of character, drink or no drink, and James's response is not credible.
I am hoping that the later episodes justify the memory I have of the show.
In one sense I can see why you woud like Sarah. In another, I can't. You claim to be a rationalist, which is totally out of character with someone who lives a life of fantasy. |
