I said retail storefronts. Each year, there are stores that close up after the Christmas season. The chains will drop their weaker outlets. If the sales outlook appears to be weak, you'll find a lot of boarded storefronts in the malls. I've found this to be the case in the DC area malls, such as Tysons Corner, Fair Oaks, etc, over the last fifteen years. It's too soon to tell of course. I find the new store openings tend to be bunched between the school shopping season in August and Thanksgiving.
