She just appeared on the "Git" thread one day for no apparent reason.

We all tried very hard to "talk" to her, and bring her into the conversations.
Everyone tried to be polite, but one by one she attacked each of us. It got to the point of abuse.

Should one subject themselves to abuse without knowing the cause?

You weren't there so you don't know how you would react, and to attack US for what she said is outrageous.
