I've learned a little about retail from my friend who works at Gap corporate. Apparently malls are passe, that is why Old Navy (which is Gap's flagship store now) never went into a mall. Target is moving upmarket and they are not a mall store. Its the "outlet mall" settings- strip malls which are somewhat upscale, that are in now. They call these outlet malls but they are not all outlets. THere is usually a target, old navy, bookstore and starbucks.

I know we have too many indoor malls around here. A ton of them were built in the early 80s it seems. One of them has so few stores open now it turns into a huge haunted house every halloween.
