I wouldn't call them outlet malls. I've noticed that they started using the discount warehouse stores, usually several, such as Target, WalMart, Sam's Club, Costco, BJ's, etc., as anchors for strip malls. They'll usually have several of the specialty big box stores, such as Barnes & Noble or Border's for books, Best Buy or Circuit City for electronics, Home Depot or Lowe's for hardware, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Linens 'n Things, Michael's Stores, and other smaller stores. There are several outlet malls here out in the outer 'burbs.

I would bet that if the smaller stores are closing up then business may not be so good at the above stores as well. They may be around but they'll cut back on service, such as the number of cashiers or the help on the floor.
