S Korea's Nov Power Use +12% On Year;Higher Heating Needs
December 30

SEOUL - South Korea's electricity consumption in November rose 12% on year due to increased heating needs compared with the year-earlier month, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said Tuesday.
Electricity consumption in November totaled 24,314 gigawatt-hours, the ministry said. Households and offices increased their power consumption as a result of a fall in average temperature compared with the corresponding month in 2001, it added.

Consumption in the household sector, which accounted for 22% of total power use, rose 18% on year.

The 12% on-year growth in November's electricity consumption compares with 9.0% in October and an average 8.0% growth in the January-November period.

In November, power consumption in South Korea's industrial sector, which accounted for 54% of the country's total power use, rose 6.2% on year.
