t is far better to be killing the enemies civilians than ours, it is far better to be destroying the enemies property and assets, than let them come here and destroy ours.

While I totally agree with this statement, I think it also important that the toll in human suffering (from either side) is reduced when we fight on the enemy's territory. If our past couple wars are any guide, and I think they are, the civilian casulaties are greatly reduced when we're doing the bombing.

Since we began using laser-guided munitions at the end of the Vietnam war, we quickly found out that it is to our advantage to be very specific in our targeting. When we go to war with Iraq this time around, the civilian casualties will be minimized. Contrast that with a war on our soil where a foreign country is attacking us. It would HAVE to be a terrorist attack, since no conventional attack is likely to get through our protective mechanisms.

The toll in civilian human suffering is (since the Gulf War, at least) greatly reduced when we're doing the bombing. Even the massive B52 strikes that were used to pound the Republican Guard in Iraq are likely to be used much less in the future.

The massive defense expenditures of the post-Vietnam era that liberals so often complain about are probably the most humane thing our military has ever done.
