This sentiment seems to mostly stem from Xmas sales. But I see an analyst on cnbc now (supposed to be the top ranked retail analyst) spinning the numbers positive, saying gross margins will be high.

Since I work in supply chain management I know deflation is occuring in clothing... some items like shoes, sweaters are selling for half of typical selling prices 5 years ago. But sourcing costs (and even more importantly, logistics costs which account for 30-40% of cos) are down even more.

I was gung-ho on shorting abercrombie but think I'll hold off, maybe the retail picture isn't as bad as all that.

Also Bob saying car sales are good too.
