When I was growing up in the 50's all the "clothes and gadgets" I touched said "Made in Japan". Later everything I drove (and still drive) is "made in Japan". Later (briefly) everything I bought was made in Mexico, Brazil or Taiwan. Now everything I pick up is made in China.

Seems like Japan, Mexico, Brazil and Taiwan need to worry more than I should.

Especially since the global factory automation comes from the US and shows no signs of moving anywhere. US software companies love following declining currencies around.

We didn't have the internet when those maquilladoras were brought online for shoe companies and the like in the early 90s. This china buildout is different. As a minimum there will be mfg information coming in from the contract manufacturers in china. Or, for some really big companies that want their own factories there, we'll wire the whole thing up as if it is a local division.
