I've heard him say that there was nothing fundamentally flawed with wideband cdma - cdma that works on a wide band of spectrum. Only that to his experience, cdma is more efficient running on a larger number of smaller frequency bands.

I've never heard him say that that there were no fundamental flaws with 3GPP standards for wideband cdma.

IJ may construct his statements carefully on this matter.

From my perspective, Q is consulting with 3GSM carriers in Europe on a full time basis to realize their 3G network preference - which is presently wideband mandated.

Q has noted that, in order to circumvent Q IP, the technology was made needlessly complex. One problem with 3GPP standards is that they rely on technology that does not yet exist, like efficient wCDMA base station amplifiers (that NOK promises in 2004 <g>), handoff solutions, and next-generation battery technology (to compensate for power chewing inefficiencies).

I believe that Q has made it crystal clear to carriers how 3GPP standards must be modified to make wideband cdma real and efficient today. However, there are powerful political forces allied against modifying the standards and loosening established grips on intellectual property.

IJ may find currency in exploiting this tension when crafting his statements.
