My Favorite Films
1. Ikiru. 1. Citizen Kane (yea, there is good reason it is on hundreds of "top ten" lists. Too bad Wells didn't make more films, Ford made over 100. The opening to Touch of Evil is not to be missed). 1. Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Bugs Bunny made me want to see this. Huston was a wild-man. His bio is a great read). 4. A Clockwork Orange (hey, the "future" is a really bad place, hehe). 5. Rashomon. 6. The Seven Samurai. 7. Godfather 1&2 (only counts as one!). 8. Sullivan's Travels. 9. Blade Runner (huge PK Dick fan, now if someone could just figure out a way to film Vonnegut well). 10. Sunset Boulevard.
Not in any Order
-Dr. No. -Ran. -Apocalypse Now. -Harold and Maude. -Lawrence of Arabia. -The Seventh Seal. -The Searchers. -Dr. Strangelove (our precious bodily fluids).
Also real good.
-The Magnificent Seven. -The Great Escape. -The Game. -Seven. -Fargo. -Miller's Crossing. -Raiders of the Lost Arc. -The Empire Strikes Back (by far the best one of the five). -La Femme Nikta. -Cinema Paradiso. -The Unforgiven. -High and Low. -Leaving Las Vegas. -Goldfinger. -From Russia with Love (and the three included ended the "great" Bond films). -The Deer Hunter. -Caddyshack (yea, I golf). -Mulholland Drive. -Amelie (I love this film, those travel postcards! HA!). -Wonder Boys (1. I really wish you hadn't shot my girlfriends dog, & 2. How can you tell?...Cause its in the perfect shape of a butt). -Schlinder's List (Amazing that the guy puts this films out and total crap like Jurassic Park in the same year, or lifetime, go figure). -Spartacus. -The Piano. -Goodfellas (Layla is forever tied to this for me now). -Mean Streets. -Drugstore Cowboy. -Silence of the Lambs. -Five Easy Pieces. -As Good as it Gets. -Sex, Lies, and Videotape. -Laura. -Blue Velvet. -To Live and Die in L.A. (Way underrated, albeit disturbing film, Defoe's character was perfect).
Lots of recent films, but I prefer to let them age a while.
Best recent special effect: The time advancement scene in "The Time Machine". Overall a marginal movie, but that one scene makes it work renting.
