I think we're on a period of borrowed time right now. The natural course of events has been altered by the "real estate boom" which has artificially (via Fannie, Freddie, and the Fed) pumped billions into the hands of middle america (the bagholders as borrowers and taxpayers) and temporarily propped a sagging economy. Government has also been spending building nice deficits and shortfalls at both the State and Federal levels.

The piper will be paid, we will regress to the mean. The only question is when.
