COOLHEADS AND PINHEADS: Patty Murray and the Pinheads. COOLHEAD: A leader says or does an unpopular thing and does not wither when the howling reproach comes. That's why Sen. Patty Murray gets a thumbs up. She stated that Osama bin Laden has generated popularity by building schools, roads and day care facilities in forgettable places such as Afghanistan. Murray didn't say Osama was great. She didn't say he deserves his own postage stamp. She just uttered a truth -- and primed the pump of debate. She posed an important question about the people in Kabul: "How would they look at us today if (the United States) had been there helping them?" PINHEADS: To all those talk-radio nabobs and political opportunists who twisted Murray's message and created a circus by framing her as a bin Laden sympathizer.
