Rangel is a buffoon. Years ago I thought a universal draft was a good idea, but not anymore. The privileged elite will still seek to put their kids into the reserves and get out of harms way (wake up and smell the coffee congressman), and the military will be saddled with a bunch of cry-babies who don't want to serve. Being an all volunteer force has the added advantage of when someone gets out of line you can say, "no one forced you to join, so get going". I believe it would lead us back toward a drug smoking, conscientious objector laden, Canada running time of whiners. Our military is strong and will remain strong as long as we continue electing people like President Bush who understand military families don't want to live off food stamps, and fly broken outdated equipment in order to serve.
