Further looking at the breakdown, Republicans were more optimistic than Democrats, and young adults were much more optimistic than older people

Doesnt that say it all? Personally, I will tell you, I am not that hot on income tax cuts per se, but I tell you this, and I have been saying this for many years. We need to eliminate taxes entirely on capital gains. We should start by allowing unlimited use of existing capital losses to offsett ordinary income to get that large amount of carryover out of the way. Then, after that we should NOT allow use of capital losses nor should we tax capital gains. It should be a wash. Over 30 years of investing I have often made decisions (sometimes poor ones) for TAX REASONS rather than ECONOMIC reasons. That was not good for me, nor good for the capital markets. JDN
