Paranoia is to imagine that a few people on what is for most investors a totally obscure corner of the Internet can possibly succeed in "tarnishing the image" of a major gold company.

The fundamental position of Barrick remains that the company has limited its ability to participate in a major upward move of gold by taking out a lot of insurance against a major decline via its hedges. This does help to guarantee the continuing existence of the company and from the point of view of the management may be the wise thing to have done.

At least that's the way it looks to me.

As an investor, if I think gold has a chance of moving higher, I would rather be in another stock. If I think that gold will be moving lower, I would rather not be in any gold stocks at all. So for me, that eliminates Barrick as a reasonable investment.
