Need I remind you that (what passes for) cities in Afghanistan were indeed bombed?

Yes... Taliban.. Remember we declared war upon Al-Qaida and any governments providing them logistical and political support.

Thus, we overthrew the Taliban (which were really a government controlled almost completely by Bin Laden).

Wonderful. Now can you tell me why the US does not accord them POW status?

Personally speaking, I opine that Al-Qaida members could theoretically be tried as war criminals.

But let's face it Zonder.. there's little precedent in any law for what's happened since 9/11. There are many cases where Judges make the best decision possible, but not necessarily one that if concretely founded in statutory law or treaty.

Err... "taking relatives into custody"??? How is that consistent with not making the innocent suffer?

If my parents/relatives were primarily responsible for my adopting militant values and carrying out such attacks, I hardly say that they are "innocent"..

Again Zonder.. let's not take this to extremes here.. I'm not advocating using techniques of physical torture in a widespread manner, if at all.. But neither am I going to shed many tears if actual Al-Qaida members are subjected to it by foreign governments acting to assist the US. I very prefer to take it on a "case by case" basis..

After all, what mercy did they shown Daniel Pearl, a journalist after taking him hostage and "interrogating" him??
